Our Halloween Party!

October 29, 2007

Well, Kyle and I had our Halloween Housewarming on Saturday night! It was just so much fun. We really have the best friends we could ever ask for. They showered us with food and drinks, lovely gifts, and AWESOME costumes!

Here are some of the ones I was able to photograph in between running around doing my hostess duties.
First up, we have Deb and Keith. Debbie made a striking zombie pirate, while Keith was looking rather chaste as a monk. What a combo!
Next up are Hank and Barbara Jean (aka Joel and Cynthia). They were just taking a walking tour of Baldwin when they thought they’d drop by for some punch and chips.
We had Lucille Ball and Ricky Ricardo stop by, as well as Go-Go (post nails to the head), and just in case Kyle’s renovation of the office wasn’t up to code, Cori was ready to set him straight.
Laura showed up as a KILLER looking Malice Alice. This ain’t the Alice in Wonderland I remember! Keith DID come with his Stormer Trooper helmet, but hey, he needs to see people.
What can I say about Ed and Liz? Every year their costumes rock. Ed had the Herman Munster laugh (huh huh huh) NAILED!
Veronica channeled Daria all night. Such a great costume. And a cute green coat to boot! Fran was rocking the punk look, and hey, there’s inspector Cori again…making sure Kyle’s work on the house wasn’t life threatening.
Speaking of Kyle, he and our friend Raz (aka Cut Shallow Radio) teamed up as The Dude and Walter from The Big Lebowski.
Kristy and Shawn were just adorable as the princess and her frog. Shawn is such a good sport! :)
We had pretty Marcela rocking the Pocahontas and Rich as Napoleon Dynamite #1.
Lastly, but certainly not least, are James and Adina. They came as Napoleon and Pedro. And were lovingly in character for most of the night. Several times James (aka Napoleon) asked me if I had any tots.

Unfortunately, I did not.

If you don’t read my other blog, Four Beds Two Baths, then you might not know Kyle and I are having our housewarming party this weekend! We both loved the idea of making our house which we’ve worked so hard on all summer to make look extra pretty, and then really make it look extra ugly and creepy for our housewarming, and invite all our friends over to celebrate! We are hoping they see how pretty it is underneath all the black, all the skulls, the caution tape, fake blood, etc.

Anyway, I’ve slowly started getting the house ready this week after work. I don’t want to give away all the decorations, but here are a few I captured just for the heck of it tonight. A little sneak peak if you will, of the creepyness to come!

Something that blew the other 364 images out of the water! But the more I thought about it, the less that seemed proper. I couldn’t magically become this person who jet sets to Paris for a long weekend. I’m just me. And so, I thought the last picture should be something pretty mundane. It didn’t need to irradicate all the other images. It simply needed to be another one. A final one.

I’m sad today, in all honesty. This project has been so dear to me. I’ve dangerously considered maintaining the flow and just keep shooting, but something about the inevitable, the end, made me say "it’s enough now."

I’ve learned so much from this year long endeavor. I am a photographer in my heart, and maybe one day I can be one on paper too. My time at RIT, majoring in photography, never made me feel like I WAS a PHOTOGRAPHER. I don’t know if it’s because I am older now, or if it’s because I just made the decision in my own head. Either way, this project helped me feel good about it.

And seriously, I can’t even stop without mentioning all the amazing, tremendous people who have been doing this project as well. It’s your images, your lives, your comments, just YOU, that has made it even more fun.

And my real life friends who’ve not only supported me through it, but have put up with my countless picture taking, even suffering through long enough to be subjects on some days.

Ok, seriously, this has become WAY too much like a speech some actress would rattle off to accept an Oscar or something. And I didn’t mean it that way. I think I am writing so much to delay the inevitable….

Ok,

The End

I hate this clown.
